Description

Sandal Vicarage is a house dating from the 18th century, with additions from the early 19th century and later 19th century. The south wing dates to the 18th century, the east wing to the early 19th century, and a later 19th-century section fills the angle between them. The south elevation is two storeys high with five windows, and has tall proportions. It is built of coursed squared stone with dressed quoins and a first-floor band. The roof is steeply pitched, with stone flags, and has a central and right-hand chimney stack. The windows are sash windows, with glazing bars dating to the early 19th century, set in raised surrounds. A canted bay window on the ground floor centre is also from the early 19th century, though the window above is a later addition. The east wing is constructed from similar materials but is plainer. It is two storeys high, with two windows and a lower-pitched roof. The later 19th-century section has a gable roof designed to match the original, but includes Tudor arched windows and a doorway.
