Description

This is an early 19th-century stable building, originally part of a demolished house. It is located to the north of number 17, Sandal, on Castle Road. The building is two storeys high and consists of a main block of four bays, with a lower, L-shaped wing extending to the south from the west end. The roof is low-pitched and covered with stone flags. The main structure is constructed from coursed squared stone. The upper windows are set high under the eaves and feature heavy lintels, plain jambs, and cills. A prominent feature is a tall, elliptical carriage arch with voussoirs and quoins in the third bay from the left. The south front of the main building incorporates two segment-arched carriage entrances and smaller openings. The wing has similar high windows and a later carriage entrance.
