Description
The barn south of Milltown Farmhouse is a farm building that likely dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a corrugated metal roof that has replaced the original slate, along with coped gables. The barn has a rectangular plan and includes a single-storey gabled wing that projects from the east end of the north wall.
On the north wall, there is a sliding door leading to an inserted doorway with plain reveals. To the right of this doorway is a blocked doorway, and to the left, next to the projecting wing, is a doorway with a quoined surround, accompanied by a window with plain reveals to its right. The west gable wall contains a central blocked doorway with inserted windows on either side, while the south wall features a doorway directly opposite the quoined doorway on the north wall.
Inside, the west part of the barn has cattle stalls with a hayloft above. The hardwood roof timbers are preserved, showcasing two tie-beam trusses (one of which has queen struts), a single row of windbraced purlins on each side, and rafters.
