Description
This is a milepost located 15 metres east of Rose Villa, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a triangular sectioned base with a moulded front angle. The back is flat, and it has a segmental arched head that curves forward to create a horizontal panel below. The north side is inscribed with 'DERBY/18 MILES', while the south side displays 'CHESTERFIELD/5 MILES, DRONFIELD/11 MILES, SHEFFIELD/17 MILES'. A raised panel on the front is inscribed 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX FOUNDRY/DERBY', and the back is inscribed above with 'TOWNSHIP OF STRETTON'.
