Description

This is a mile post located 10 metres southeast of Carr Hill Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a triangular sectioned base with a moulded front angle. The back is flat, and the head is segmental, curving forward to create a horizontal panel below. The north side is inscribed with 'DERBY/15 MILES', while the south side has the inscriptions 'CLAY CROSS/3 MILES, CHESTERFIELD/9 MILES, DRONFIELD/14 MILES'. The back of the post is inscribed with 'TOWNSHIP OF SHIRLAND'. Additionally, there is a raised panel on the front inscribed 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX FOUNDRY/DERBY'.
