Description
This is a milepost from the early 19th century located on Derby Road in Wingerworth. It is made of triangular cast iron and features a sloping triangular upper face. The back of the post extends upwards to hold an inscription and ends in a segmental arched head. The inscription on the front reads "TOWNSHIP OF WINGERWORTH," and the manufacturer is noted as "J HAYWOOD JNR, DERBY" on the sloping upper face. The south side of the milepost indicates the distances to Chesterfield (2 miles), Dronfield (8 miles), and Sheffield (14 miles). The north side shows the distances to Clay Cross (3 miles) and Derby (21 miles).
