Description
Rose Cottage is a house built in 1737, with some minor alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of coursed, squared sandstone with gritstone dressings. It features projecting quoins and a plain string band at the first floor level, along with a plain eaves band. The roof is covered with modern red plain tiles and has a stone ridge. There are 19th-century stone gable end stacks with moulded cornices. The house is two storeys high and has three bays.
The central entrance has a raised quoined doorcase with a moulded hood, and the lintel is inscribed with 'SMF 1737'. The door is from the 20th century. On either side of the door, there are two-light square sectioned mullion windows in raised plain surrounds, and there are three similar windows above. All the windows have been replaced with 20th-century single pane casements. Additionally, there are various single light flush windows on the west gable wall.
