Description

The Haven, in Higham, is a pair of late 18th-century cottages that have been combined into a single house. Originally the Ogston Estate Office, it was listed in 1967. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with tooled gritstone dressings. It has quoins and a concrete tile roof, with rendered gable end stacks. The main block is two storeys and three bays, with a single-storey addition to the south. Steps lead up to two central doorcases, featuring re-used consoles on the sides, large double keystones, and 20th-century panelled doors. Flanked by the doors are two-light flush mullion windows on each floor. A blocked semi-circular headed window with a fluted keystone is centrally placed above the doors. The single-storey addition to the south incorporates a door and a 20th-century two-light mullion window. All windows are 20th-century leaded casements.
