PARISH OF SHIRLAND & HIGHAM SHIRLAND ROAD (South Side) Former Friends Meeting House and School, Toadhole Furnace

Friends Meeting House and school. 1743. Coursed sandstone rubble, gritstone dressings. Slate roofs. Stone gable end stack to Meeting House. Single bay, single storey meeting house to east. Two storey, single bay school house to west with flight of stone steps between the buildings. Meeting House has 2-light flush mullion window with C20 leaded lights to east. Quoined, flush doorcase to west with lintel inscribed 'Matthew Hopkinson 1743' in incised plaque. West gable wall has 2-light flush mullion and flights of steps up to plain doorcase with plank door. Interior has gallery to west. School house lower with four centred arch, quoined doorcase to west gable wall. Two glazing bar sashes in flush surrounds above.
