Description
Church Cottage is a cottage located on Station Road in Stanley. It has a mid 18th century and 20th century exterior, but the internal timber structure has been dated through dendrochronological sampling to 1415, 1446, and 1520. The building features painted brick with thatch and pantile roof coverings. It is a single storey with attics. The west elevation has a three-light 20th century casement window on the right and a doorway on the left, with 20th century dormer windows above. The east elevation includes 20th century three-light and four-light casements on the ground floor, along with two 20th century dormers above.
Inside, the cottage has a cruck frame with side and ridge purlins, and a yoke to the central truss. Although the interior has been substantially altered, it is significant due to the historical dates identified by dendrochronological sampling. There is a brick and pantile extension to the right, which is not of special interest.
