PARISH OF DALE ABBEY LOCKO ROAD (north side) Stable block to north of Locko Park

GV II

Stable block. Mid to late c19, probably incorporating the remains of an earlier range. Red and yellow brick, with gritstone dressings. Hipped Welsh slate roofs with various ridge stacks. U-plan range enclosing a courtyard to south, enclosed by low wall sharply ramped up to the ashlar entrance archway. This has a keyed round arch, ball finials and a sculpture of a hen in the centre. Within the courtyard, the west range has three segmental arched entrances to the coach houses. Lean-to glazed canopy. The north range has two doorways with quoined jambs and flat arches, and four C19 sashes with flat stone surrounds. Three two-light plain mullioned windows above and three blind windows. The east range has a carriage entrance and a doorway flanked by c19 sashes in stone surrounds. Three two-light windows above. Tall slate hung bell-turret with concave pyramidal top. Further wing attached to west with round headed doorways and a window with a basket arch.
