Description
Ye Olde Cinder House and Cinder Cottage are a pair of estate cottages built in 1833. They are constructed from brick faced in cinder or clinker, with stone dressings, and feature a 20th-century cement tile roof. The cottages have a mix of chimney stacks, including a diamond plan brick ridge stack, a plain brick ridge stack, and a diamond plan lateral stack.
The buildings are two storeys tall and have an unequal T-plan layout. The south elevation includes a projecting gabled bay on the left side, which features a three-light gothic window on the ground floor and a similar two-light window above. In the gable, made of orange cinder, are the initials "EN" and the date "1833." The gable has bargeboards with finials. To the right of the gabled bay is another three-light gothic window and a 20th-century gabled porch with timber cladding and a gothic door. Further right, there is a two-light gothic window, and above, in a gabled dormer, is another two-light window. Most of the windows are deeply set and have tooled stone surrounds. The east elevation of the gable end has one similar two-light window.
