Description

The Back Shop, located on the passage adjacent to The Bell Inn on Cromford Hill, is a former shop that likely dates back to the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a tiled roof. The building has two storeys and probably includes a half basement. There is a boarded door on the right, which has a brick right-hand jamb and a dressed lintel. On the left, there is a casement window with quoined jambs and a dressed lintel. Notably, there are no windows on the first floor. The Back Shop faces a passage on the south side of The Bell Inn and is situated between The Bell Inn and a cottage that forms the rear wing of No 30 North Street. This building is included in the listing for its group value only. It is important to note that The Back Shop is part of the house at the rear of No 47 Cromford Hill, while the remainder is associated with 30 North Street, which was previously listed as part of Nos 30 and 31 North Street.
