Description

This building comprises an inn, now divided into three houses, located at High Street (South Side) No. 64 (Cullingworth) and Bell Lane (East Side) Nos. 1 and 3. It dates back to the 18th century, although it may have earlier origins, with alterations carried out in the mid-to-late 20th century. The construction uses brick with stone dressings and limestone rubble, with a plain-tile roof to No. 64 and a 20th-century concrete tile roof to Nos. 1 and 3; brick stacks are also present. The building follows a double-depth plan with a rear wing.

The front facing Bell Lane (East Side) has three windows, constructed in Flemish-bond brickwork with flared brick headers. It features plank doors to the left (No. 1) and right (No. 3) of the centre, along with one small-pane casement window to the left and two to the right, all set within gauged brick arches incorporating stone keyblocks, and similar windows are present on the first floor. A double-gabled front, likely the original elevation, faces High Street, built of rubble. The High Street front has a central door flanked by 20th-century casement windows under stone flat arches; the window to the right has been enlarged with a timber lintel and brick jambs. A 20th-century range is set back to the left of the High Street front. The adjoining side elevation of No. 64 High Street is similarly styled, with casement windows at first floor and on the ground floor. The rear of No. 1 Bell Lane is constructed of rubble, and the brickwork there probably represents an 18th-century re-fronting. The interiors have not been inspected, but are thought likely to be of interest. The building was previously known as the Bell Inn.
