Description

No 43 is a house located on Cromford Hill, dating from the late 18th century. It is built of coursed rubble with a tiled roof and has two storeys. The front features a symmetrical arrangement with two windows on the first floor. The building has a plinth and large quoins. There are external steps leading to a central doorway, which has a part-glazed double door beneath a glazed canopy. On each floor, there are flanking 2-light windows with 6-pane wooden casements set in square-faced surrounds with stone mullions. The house has a brick end stack on the left and a later external end stack on the right.

Additionally, there is an attached room to the right, which is believed to date from around 1900. This room is a lean-to against an unnumbered house on North Street and features a canted bay facing Cromford Hill, with a shaped stone gable wall that includes a louvred roundel. It also has sash windows and a doorway on the left. The building is situated in a prominent location near the entrance to North Street and is noted for its group value with nearby structures.
