Description
12 Nene Quay is possibly an early 18th-century building that is believed to have originally been The New Bell Inn. It was refaced in the 19th century and features modern shop alterations. The structure is made of local brown brick and has a slate roof with parapet gables and side stacks. It has a stone-coped, panelled brick parapet. The building is two storeys high with attics and includes brick piers at the corners and flanking the entrance bay. There is a moulded stone cornice, and on the first floor, there are five recessed hung sash windows set in cambered brick arches with stone cills. The ground floor has modern shop windows and a central door. The building is noted for its prominent corner position at Hill Street and for its group value with nearby structures.
