Description

The Hauck Flame Warehouse, located to the rear of numbers 5 and 7 on the east side of Wisbech Old Market, is a granary built around 1820, possibly in two phases. The building features local brown brick, asbestos sheeting, and slated hipped roofs, rising to five storeys. The facade facing the river is symmetrical with five bays. At ground level, there are central double doors inserted into an original round arched opening, flanked by two windows on either side, each with two lights set in segmental brick arches. This pattern is repeated with central doorways in segmental arches at each floor level. Some windows have boarded shutters. Inside, the warehouse retains original staircases. The floors are supported by brick piers on the ground floor, while other levels feature chamfered timber posts with cantilevered beams above.
