Description
No. 10 Old Market is a mid-18th century shop located on the east side of Wisbech Old Market. The building is constructed from local brown brick and features modern interlocking red tiles on the roof, with a central stack. It stands three storeys tall, with a basement, and includes a hipped rear wing and a stair turret. The parapet is topped with stone copings.
On the second floor, there are three recessed, six-paned hung sash windows set in cambered gauged brick arches, while the first floor has three similar twelve-paned windows. The shop front, dating from the early 20th century, includes shop windows and double doors. A 17th-century oak door with studded, moulded rails has been reused for the side entrance.
Inside, the building boasts a well-preserved mid-18th century interior featuring a modillioned cornice and panelling. The open-string staircase has a moulded, raking bannister rail and turned balusters, along with raised and fielded panelled doors.
