Description
This is a farm outbuilding located to the south of Malthouse Farmhouse, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone and features plain gables and a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and is attached to the farmhouse at the northern end, with an advanced crosswing on the east elevation at the southern end.
The east elevation has three bays and three window openings, two of which are in former doorways that are now blocked. Two of the windows are pivot windows, while one is a horizontal sliding sash, and all have glazing bars. The northernmost blocked door has a quoined surround. The advanced wing features a stacked 2-light flush mullioned window in the gable and a doorway at the angle of the two ranges, which is accessed by a short flight of stone steps and has a quoined surround and lintel. The end bay has been partially reconstructed in brick, and there is a lean-to that encloses the angle between the ranges at the southern end. The building is listed for its group value.
