Description
A 17th-century farmhouse with 18th-century additions and 19th-century alterations, situated in the parish of Eckington. The farmhouse is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with quoins, featuring coped gables with moulded kneelers, brick ridge stacks, and a roof of Welsh and stone slates. The building has an irregular L-shaped plan, incorporating a gabled crosswing to the east end, an advanced section, and a further gabled wing projecting to the north. To the west, the farmhouse is adjoined by an open-fronted outbuilding, which itself has a gabled projection to the rear.
The south elevation, two stories high and four bays wide, features stacked 3-light flush mullioned windows to the west of the main door, positioned at the angle of the two ranges. A single light window is located above the door. A second doorway, with a quoined surround, is accompanied by a 2-light flush mullioned window at the west end, where the house meets the outbuilding. The gable of the advanced wing displays a 2-light chamfer mullioned window to the first floor and enlarged C19 openings on the ground floor, topped with a low coped parapet. The north gable includes a 2-light flush mullioned window with a dripmould to the attic floor, an advanced gable to the west, and a 3-light and a 4-light chamfer mullioned window with dripmoulds. A further 3-light chamfer mullioned window is present on the north wall of the main range.
Attached to the west is an outbuilding of irregular T-plan form. The section adjoining the house has two openings with segmental brick arches. At the west end of the outbuilding is a single-story, three-bay wing with two doorways, each having a chamfered quoined surround, and an inserted full-height double opening beneath a stone slated roof. A two-bay range projecting to the rear of the main range also features an opening in the north gable.
