Description

Wingfield House is a former house that has been converted into a church. It dates from the mid-18th century and was significantly enlarged around 1840. The 19th-century addition features pebble dash on an ashlar plinth, while the earlier part is constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone. The roof of the newer section is hipped with interlocking concrete tiles and has boldly projecting eaves, while the older part has a roof covered with Welsh slates and a coped gable at the west end.

The 19th-century range is two storeys high and has five bays arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, with the central bay recessed and flanked by full-height pilasters that lack capitals. The doorway is framed by an ashlar surround, with narrow sash windows on either side, separated by pilasters with modestly moulded capitals. The entrance features panelled double doors, each with three panels, and an inner half-glazed door that has glazing bars and margin lights. Above the door is a rectangular overlight with glazing bars, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice.

At the rear, there is an 'L' shaped range. The south elevation has two storeys and three bays, with the ground floor featuring 2-light flush mullioned windows that have 20th-century casements, along with a single light opening in between. The first floor includes three 2-light openings and two 19th-century gabled dormers that project from the roof plane, complete with bargeboards and finials. There is also a monopitch lean-to with a concrete tiled roof. The north gable of the 'L' shaped range has a 3-light flush mullioned window on the ground floor, with a glazing bar sash window above, all set within a 19th-century brick wall.
