Description
This is a 17th-century house and shop, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is located on the High Street in Uppingham. The building is constructed of coursed rubble, with an ashlar west end, and the north front is rendered with a finish imitating ashlar. It has a plain tiled roof with coped gables and decorative kneelers. There are two stacks: a stone one on the west end with a brick shaft, and a later brick stack on the east end. The building is two storeys high and originally two windows wide. The south front has two 3-light stone-mullioned windows with weathered cornices above, and a blocked single-light window below. A smaller, blocked light is set into the gable of the east end. The north front has three sash windows, with thick glazing bars and raised architraves with keystones. A 19th-century shop front curves around the north-east corner, featuring five-light windows and a corner entrance framed by Doric columns supporting a fascia.
