Description
The Queen Victoria Jubilee Fountain is a drinking fountain located in Uppingham Market Place, built in 1887. It is made of stone and designed in the Gothic Revival style. The fountain has a hexagonal shape and features a squat spirelet that supports a decorative cast-iron lamp bracket. At each corner, there are columns with shaft-rings and stylized leaf capitals. On alternating faces, there are small piscina-like niches with basins, with the southern face featuring a water spout. The northern face displays the Royal Arms. The spirelet is inscribed with a dedication that reads, "This monument is erected by the inhabitants of Uppingham in loving and loyal commemoration of the fiftieth year of the reign of Her Most Gracious Majesty Victoria June 1887 Long Live the Queen."
