Description
D Norton and Son is a pair of houses, one of which includes a shop, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick with an ashlar front and feature a Welsh slate roof along with brick ridge and south end stacks. The building stands three storeys tall, with No 9 being two windows wide and No 4 High Street East being four windows wide, characterized by a curved north-west corner. A cornice runs along the top of both buildings.
No 9 has a door on the right side with a rectangular fanlight above it, and to the left, there is a two-storey canted bay window. The windows are primarily sash windows with glazing bars. No 4 High Street East has similar sash windows, except at the corner where it features two-light casement windows with glazing bars; the first-floor window is full-length and includes an overlight with lozenge-pattern glazing bars. There is also a similar overlight above the entrance on the corner, which is framed by fluted Doric columns. These columns are repeated at either end of the shop windows facing north and west. The building has a curved fascia that carries a model of a plough.
