Description
Nos 5, 6, and 6A in Market Place is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the 18th century, though it may have earlier origins. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has a Welsh slate roof with a coped gable on the north side. It stands two storeys high, with a plain raised string course separating the floors.
On the ground floor, there are two shop fronts from the late 19th or early 20th century, separated by a passageway. The first floor features two tripartite sash windows that include glazing bars. At the rear of No 6, there is a wing made of rubble, topped with a Collyweston stone slate roof and featuring a stone stack with a brick shaft on the west end, along with brick stacks at the ridge and east end. This wing also has two storeys, with sash windows of various widths beneath timber lintels. There is a 19th-century panelled door and a 19th-century timber oriel window on the first floor. Additionally, there are two hipped dormers with casement openings on the roof.
