Description

No. 16 Pilcher Gate is a warehouse built around 1856 by architect T.C. Hine of Nottingham, now serving as offices following a conversion in the late 20th century. The building features ashlar and red brick construction with ashlar dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof that has two side wall stacks. It has an ashlar plinth and ground floor, with painted ground floor and eaves cornices, and a second floor sill band.

The structure is a corner block with three storeys, a basement, and attics, and it has a window arrangement of five by six. Most of the windows are original cast-iron glazing bar casements; those on the ground floor are segment-headed, while the upper floors feature round-headed windows with linked hood moulds. The attics have similar fenestration but with smaller wooden framed windows.

The rounded corner entrance bay has a moulded segment-arched opening that contains a framed panelled door with a blank fanlight, flanked by granite columns. Above this entrance, there is a triple window on each floor. The front elevation facing Pilcher Gate has an off-centre recessed bay with a tall three-light traceried window, accompanied by three windows to the left and one to the right. The basement has seven blank openings. The right return, facing Halifax Place, displays regular fenestration on the upper floors, while the ground floor features two altered windows, one of which has been converted into a door.
