Description
Milbie House is a warehouse built in 1889, now serving as architects' offices. It was designed by Watson Fothergill of Nottingham for Mr. Doubleday. The building features red brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. It has a vermiculated plinth, sill bands, and a brick-bracketed eaves cornice. The structure is three storeys high, plus attics, and has a symmetrical front with a central entrance bay and side bays marked by brick pilasters.
The round-arched entrance is decorated with polychrome voussoirs and contains a renewed door and sidelights, supported by pink granite columns and a stone mullioned fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there are three plate glass windows with toplights, separated by grey granite columns. Above these, a two-light cross casement is flanked by three segment-arched plate glass windows with toplights. Higher up, there are ten smaller segment-arched plain sashes arranged in a pattern of four, two, and four. The attics feature a central three-light mullioned window, flanked by two large pairs of hipped dormers with finials.
