Description

The gates and gate piers located northwest of the War Memorial onto University Road were designed by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1923. They are constructed from Portland stone and consist of six identical piers featuring banded Tuscan pilasters that support an entablature with a wide cornice and tall urns. The central area includes large iron gates with an ornate overthrow that incorporates a coat of arms, along with flanking pedestrian gates.
