Description
Numbers 45, 47, and 49 on Lancaster Place are a row of three firemen's houses built between 1925 and 1927, designed by A. E. and T. Sawday. The houses are constructed of red brick, with some areas rendered, and feature plain tile hipped roofs. There are four ridge stacks, a brick plinth, quoins, and an eaves band with corner brackets.
The buildings are two stories high and have a seven-window front. The center house projects slightly taller and includes a central doorway with a brick surround and an inset part-glazed door with sidelights. Above this doorway is a twelve-pane casement window. On either side, there are two two-light glazing bar casements, with two similar smaller windows above. The projecting side wings have single three-light glazing bar casements, with smaller two-light casements above them.
This row of houses was built to provide accommodation for the firemen associated with the Leicester Fire Station.
