Description
Numbers 37 and 39 on Lancaster Place are a pair of firemen's houses built between 1925 and 1927, designed by A. E. and T. Sawday. The houses are constructed of red brick, with some areas rendered, and feature plain tile hipped roofs. They have three ridge stacks and a brick plinth. The design includes quoins and an eaves band with corner brackets.
The buildings are two storeys high and have a six-window front. The recessed center has two two-light glazing bar casements, with two smaller similar casements above. Each projecting side wing contains inner doorways with brick surrounds and part-glazed doors, along with outer two-light glazing bar casements. Above the doors, there is a single fixed light with glazing bars, and beyond that, single two-light glazing bar casements.
These houses were constructed as accommodation for firemen associated with the Leicester Fire Station.
