Description
Numbers 23 and 25 on Lancaster Place are a pair of firemen's houses built between 1925 and 1927, designed by A. E. and T. Sawday. The houses are constructed of red brick, with some areas rendered, and feature plain tile hipped roofs. They have three ridge stacks and a brick plinth. The design includes quoins and an eaves band with corner brackets.
The buildings are two storeys high with a six-window front. The recessed center has two two-light glazing bar casements on the ground floor and two similar, smaller casements above. Each projecting side wing contains inner doorways with brick surrounds and part-glazed doors, along with outer two-light glazing bar casements. Above the doors, there is a single fixed light with glazing bars, and beyond that, single two-light glazing bar casements.
These houses were constructed to provide accommodation for firemen associated with the Leicester Fire Station.
