Description
The Former Fielding Johnson Hospital, located at 80 Regent Road, is an early 19th-century large building finished in stucco. It has three storeys and a basement, featuring a central block with five windows, flanked by two blocks that each have five windows connected by a recessed section with two windows.
The right wing of the building dates from the mid to late 19th century. Its ground floor is rusticated and includes a large central porch supported by square Ionic columns, which hold up an entablature with a heavy cornice. The first and second floors display giant Corinthian pilasters between the windows, supporting an entablature topped with a heavy crowning cornice that features modillions and dentils, along with a parapet. The first-floor windows are framed with moulded shouldered architraves.
The left block has a rusticated ground floor, while the first and second floors feature moulded architraves. The centre of the first floor has a cornice on console brackets, and the parapet and cornice are similar to those of the central block. The left return elevation has seven windows, two of which are blind. The later right block is made of painted brick, with chamfered quoins, a dentilled cornice, a parapet, and architraves with small cornices. The two connecting window bays have iron balconets on the first-floor windows. The property also includes ornate iron railings beside the porch, stuccoed gate-piers, and a gate at the front, along with three remaining stuccoed piers in the front garden area, although the railings are currently missing.
