Description
The Rise is an early 19th-century building located on Peppard Road. It is two storeys tall and constructed of stucco with a slate hipped roof. The building features a wide bracketed eaves cornice and a central pedimented gable on the south front. There is a band above the ground floor and a string course below the eaves. The main block consists of three bays with glazing bar sash windows. On the ground floor, there are large, formerly tripartite, four-light windows that have console brackets at the top of the frames and mullions, with four mullions for each window.
The central double door has circular central panels and shaped panels above and below, framed by coupled panelled pilasters, and is topped by a wide segmental fanlight with a curved and circular glazing pattern. The door is recessed by fluted Doric columns in antis under the main outer wall and is approached by five steps. To the left, there is a lower altered two-storey wing with five glazing bar sash windows and dividing pilaster strips. To the right, there is a full-height set back wing with two windows on the first floor, bracketed eaves, and a 20th-century lean-to verandah.
Inside, there is a large stair hall with a staircase featuring a mahogany rail. The three ground floor rooms have panelled ceilings with small pendants and enriched cornices.
