Description
The building is a barn with attached outbuildings located approximately 15 meters south-west of Elmwood House, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of a seven-bay barn, with a three-bay stable on the left and a four-bay stable on the right. The barn has quoins and stands in front of the stables, featuring a tall segmental-arched cart entry and a window with plain stone surrounds above it, along with similar but larger windows on either side. At the right end, a doorway with large tie-stone jambs leads to a dovecote. The stable blocks on either side have doorways arranged one above the other, with a flight of stone steps leading to haylofts. There are square windows on either side, and a lean-to attached to the right-hand return has three doorways that once led to calving pens. Each end of the stable blocks has hipped roofs.
Inside, the barn features a queen-post roof with a wide-spanning tie-beam, while the dovecote contains brick nesting boxes. The stable on the right retains original iron stables for four horses and has fish-bone king-post roofs.
