Description

A range of seven houses, numbers 32 to 44 Barnsley Road, was built in 1847 to provide accommodation for staff at Ackworth School. The houses are constructed of coursed squared sandstone with a slate roof. They form a long, rectangular front range with varying extensions to the rear. The two-storey front has seventeen bays, with the tenth bay featuring a pediment over a segmental-arched carriage passage. The doorways have rectangular four-pane overlights, and the windows are 16-pane sashed with raised run-out sills and flush rectangular heads. The roof is hipped at both ends, and the chimney stacks are largely positioned in front of the ridge. The property is included on the list for its group value with the school located on the opposite side of the road.
