Description

The Mount is a house, likely dating from the early 19th century, which was altered and extended in the later 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with a slate roof. The house follows a double-depth, four-room plan, with added wings. It is three storeys high and has three bays, arranged symmetrically, with two-storey, single-bay wings set back on either side. A central doorway is sheltered by a Tuscan porch. Flanking the doorway are canted bay windows. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, each with a moulded architrave, while the second floor has square 12-pane sashes, also with moulded architraves. Added lean-to wings, each finished with square-topped parapets that disguise the monopitched roofs, have sashed windows on both floors. The interior has been altered, but features a good dog-legged staircase with iron balusters featuring diamond panels.
