Description

Eden Place is a house, now serving as a local authority home, likely built in the late 18th century. It features coursed squared sandstone and a stone slate roof. The building has an unusual single-depth linear plan with a service area extending to the right instead of at the rear, along with a garden house linked to this section further to the right.

The house stands two storeys over cellars and has a first-floor sill band. The main part of the building consists of three symmetrical bays, with a flight of five semicircular steps leading to a central doorway that has a pedimented Gibbs surround and a glazed and panelled door. There are two tripartite sashed windows on the ground floor and three 12-pane sashes above, all featuring raised plain surrounds. The structure is topped with a modillioned cornice and a low blocking course, and it has a hipped roof with three ridge chimneys, one located at the right-hand end.

On the left side, there is a full-height semicircular bay with a tripartite sashed window on each floor, and above the upper window, there is a Sun fire insurance plaque dated 1847. The service wing to the right is slightly set back and consists of two bays, with 16-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes above. Attached at the right-hand end is a single-storey, three-bay continuation featuring a wide central doorway flanked by pedimented gabled bays. The right bay serves as a single-cell garden house with a 12-pane sashed window and a lunette in the pediment, while the left bay, in a matching style, acts as a screen to the linking passage.

Inside, there is a cantilevered stone staircase along the rear wall.
