Description

Manor House, including a rear outbuilding wing and an attached mounting block, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and some brick, topped with a slate roof. The building is arranged in a U-plan, consisting of a double-depth, three-bay front range with two rear wings. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a symmetrical Classical style. The ground floor is rendered, and the central round-headed doorway has panelled double doors, a fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a pedimented architrave. There are two 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and three above, all with raised sills. The building has a moulded cornice, a low blocking course, coped gables, and gable chimneys.

The left gable wall includes one sash window on each floor and a round-headed attic window. The rear wing has a four-step mounting block attached and a through-passage leading to the rear yard, which features a wrought-iron gate at the inner end. This wing contains a privy, stable, and a first-floor granary with a doorway in the rear gable wall accessed by external steps. Between the wings is an exceptionally large full-height round-headed stair window with glazing bars. Inside, there is a fine doglegged staircase with an open string, scrolled brackets, two slender balusters per tread, and a ramped handrail with a wreathed curtail. The former kitchen is located in the east wing and includes an iron bread oven, along with cellars that feature stone curing tables.
