Description

This is a house, now divided into two dwellings, built in the later 18th century and altered and extended in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with a slate roof, and has a gable facing the road. The building is arranged around a shallow double-depth rectangular plan, consisting of a three-unit main range, a set-back wing at the left end, and an addition to this wing. The main element (number 132), which is symmetrical and now painted white, has three bays and three storeys. It features raised quoins, a central doorway with a reeded architrave and small cornice, and a blocked window above the door with a moulded architrave and an open segmental pediment supported by consoles. The ground and first floors have 12-pane sash windows, while the second floor has 9-pane sashes, except for a blocked window in the center with a raised surround. A moulded cornice, coped gables and gable chimneys are also present.

The slightly set-back wing (now part of number 130) is one bay wide and has three storeys, at a lower level than the main range. It features a ground-floor window in an altered round-headed opening with stepped voussoirs and imposts, and 12-pane and 9-pane sashes at the first and second floors, respectively, all with raised surrounds. To the left of a vertical joint, a later addition projects slightly, with bands marking two levels. This addition includes a doorway, side windows, and a pediment over the door, all with raised surrounds. A 12-pane sash window on the first floor has a raised sill on scrolled brackets and a surround with a keystone, and a square window on the second floor has a similar surround. Moulded eaves and a hipped roof with a ridge chimney complete the exterior.

The left return wall incorporates bands across a two-storey canted bay, with tripartite windows on all floors. The first floor window has Tuscan columnar mullions, and the second floor window breaks forward slightly and is pedimented. The rear of number 132 includes a relocated lintel dated 1744. A single-storey, flat-roofed extension is attached to the right-hand end of number 132 and appears to replace a prior wing; it is not considered to be of special interest.

Inside number 130, a parlour features a fireplace with a hob grate, a reeded surround and architrave with a raised panel on the frieze and a moulded cornice. There is also a built-in bookcase in the same room with matching architrave.
