Description
Priory Cottage is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 17th century and altered in the late 18th century. It is constructed of rendered sandstone and has a roof made of modern pantiles. The building features a three-unit lobby-entry plan with a rear outshut serving the second and third units. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays. The doorway at the junction of the first and second bays has a fielded panelled door with a plain surround and a simple pediment. To the right, the second bay contains a tripartite window, where the centre light is wider and the outer lights are sashed, all featuring glazing bars and a raised plain surround. The remaining windows include two at ground level and three above, all now top-hung casements with glazing bars and raised plain surrounds. The gables have copings with kneelers, and there are gable chimneys as well as a ridge chimney aligned with the door. The rear of the first bay has windows similar to those at the front, along with a horizontal-sliding sash in the position of a fire window and another above. The prominent outshut has two doorways (one covered by a glazed porch) and three windows, with the central window being an S-light horizontal-sliding sash. The gables also feature copings with kneelers, and there is a chimney at the left end. Inside, there are some chamfered beams and a deep chimney stack, although the interior has been otherwise altered.
