Description

This is a milepost located on the Pontefract Road in High Ackworth, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is made of sandstone and features a cast-iron facing plate. The milepost has a triangular shape and stands approximately 1 metre high. It has a flat-faced semicircular head with raised lettering that reads "BARNSLEY & PONTEFRACT ROAD" around the top and "ACKWORTH" below. On the right-hand side, there is stencilled lettering that says "BARN."
