Description
This milepost, located in front of "Arundel" on Barnsley Road in Hemsworth, dates from the early to mid 19th century. It is made of sandstone and features a cast-iron facing plate. The milepost is triangular in shape and stands approximately 1 metre high. It has a flat-faced semicircular head with chamfered sides, displaying raised lettering that reads "BARNSLEY & PONTEFRACT ROAD" around the head and "HEMSWORTH" along the sides, along with the distances of "7 MILES" to Pontefract and "7 MILES" to Barnsley.
