Description

This is a milepost located on Pontefract Road in Ackworth, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is made of sandstone and features a cast iron facing plate. The milepost is triangular in shape and approximately 1 metre high, with a flat-faced semicircular head and chamfered sides. It has raised lettering that reads "BARNSLEY & PONTEFRACT ROAD" around the head, along with "ACKWORTH", "PONT 2 MILES", and "BARNY 12 MILES".
