Description
28 and 30 Barnsley Road are two houses that were originally a single dwelling, dated 1773 as indicated by the inscription in the pediment above the door. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a stone slate roof. It has a double-depth, three-unit plan and stands three storeys high with three bays, originally designed in a Classical style.
The left corner has raised quoins, while the other corner is now obscured by an adjoining building. The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and topped with a pediment supported by consoles, which also displays the date "1773." The ground floor windows have been altered, with a modern bow window to the left and a canted bay window to the right. The first floor features tall vertical-rectangular windows, while the second floor has almost square windows. All windows have raised plain surrounds, except for the central first-floor window, which has a small raised keystone. Most windows are now top-hung casements with glazing bars, except for the right-hand first-floor window, which is side-hung.
The building has a plain eaves band, a hipped roof, and a chimney on the side wall. The right-hand front corner is overlapped by the adjoining building at the ground and first floors. The interior of No. 30 has been internally remodelled, while No. 28 has not been inspected. This building forms a group with No. 32 to the left.
