Description
The guide post located on the traffic island at the junction with Station Road in Low Ackworth is a notable structure dated 1805, positioned on the east side of Barnsley Road. This guide post is made of sandstone and has a hexagonal shape, standing approximately 3 meters high. It features banded rustication, a straight-sided pedestal, and a tapered column topped with a large triangular cap. The inscriptions on all sides include directional finger-pointers indicating distances to Pontefract (3 miles), Hemsworth (3 miles), East Hardwick (3 miles), Snaith (15 miles), Wentbridge (3 miles), and Doncaster (13 miles). The cap is now adorned with an ornamental wrought iron stand that supports three lamps.
