Description
The Lodge, located on Gledhow Wood Road, is a two-storey building constructed between 1885 and 1890, designed by the architects Chorley and Connon, who also worked on Gledhow Hall. This Italianate-style lodge features a rock-faced gritstone and ashlar exterior with a slate roof. The front elevation has two bays and includes a four-panel door and a keyed round arch porch on the left, with a balustrade above. To the right, there is a projecting gabled bay with a canted bay window on the ground floor and a four-centred arched window above, both fitted with four-pane sash windows. The building is adorned with a moulded eaves cornice, stone gutter brackets, gable copings, and a corniced ridge stack on the right. Segmental-arched windows are present on the right return.
The lodge is accompanied by a low wall and railings that curve around the front garden, connecting to the inner and outer pairs of piers. The four piers are approximately 2.5 meters high, square in section, with a plinth, raised oval panels, and deep corniced capstones with square bases; one pier includes a cast-iron lamp base. The total length of the railings, piers, and wall is about 30 meters. The interior has not been inspected.
