Description

Dalserf House Lodge is a later 19th-century single-storey lodge with a raised basement, located on Lanark Road in Dalserf. The building has a symmetrical three-bay design, situated on ground that slopes to the north, and features three-light timber oriel windows. It is constructed from stugged and snecked cream sandstone with droved dressings, and has long and short margins around the openings, as well as long and short quoins. The lodge is complemented by gatepiers and gates located to the east.

On the south (principal) elevation, there is a round-arched stop-chamfered doorway in the central bay, which contains a round-arched timber panelled door. Each bay on this elevation has a window flanking the doorway. The north (rear) elevation displays irregular fenestration with a cluster of windows on the right side.

The east (side) elevation features a single bay gabled wall with a bipartite oriel window to the left and a gablehead stack above. The west (side) elevation is a two-bay, two-storey gabled wall, which has a replacement large-pane glazed door in the left bay and a blocked doorway in the right bay. The first floor is blank, with a gablehead stack above.

The lodge includes small-pane timber mullioned and transomed casement windows, as well as 2-pane timber sash and case and casement windows at the rear. The roof is covered in grey slate with a red clay ridge, and features ashlar coped stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the lodge has architraved timber panelled doors and half-height clap boarding in the drawing room.

The boundary walls, gatepiers, gates, and railings consist of a pair of square-plan sandstone ashlar gatepiers with a cornice, square cap, and raised ball finials located to the east of the lodge. The original wrought-iron double gates have been replaced, and there is a stugged sandstone ashlar quadrant wall with a ridged ashlar cope that sweeps in front of the lodge, terminating in a similar pier. The wall steps down to a lower level in front of the lodge and includes a replaced wrought-iron pedestrian gate and railings.
