Description

The Orchard, located on Lanark Road in Dalserf, is a former inn built in the mid-19th century, with later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a symmetrical rectangular plan and a single-storey, three-bay projection to the right. The exterior is harled, featuring painted ashlar dressings, and has chamfered reveals around the openings. The first-floor windows are positioned close to the eaves, and there are block cills.

On the north elevation, the central bay at ground level has a stop-chamfered doorpiece with a two-leaf boarded door and a small-pane letterbox fanlight above it. There is a window on the first floor directly above this door. Each of the outer bays has a bipartite window at ground level and a single window on the first floor. The single-storey projection to the outer right is set back and includes a boarded door with a window flanking it on the left, a window in the right bay, and two-leaf boarded garage doors on the gabled right return.

The building features four-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with slate on the addition, an ashlar coped stack at the east gablehead, ashlar skews, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.

In addition, there are gatepiers and railings at the property. The square-plan cream sandstone piers have truncated pyramidal caps, with the left pier having been repaired. These piers are located to the right of the house, accompanied by a sandstone rubble wall with a curved ashlar cope to the right and replacement wrought-iron railings extending in front of the house to the left.
