Description

The Neuk, located on Church Road in Liff, is a former inn dated 1740 and 1777. This two-storey building has a rectangular plan and features three bays, along with an adjoining single-storey outbuilding. The structure is constructed from pink and grey rubble masonry, with mostly modern concrete margins and a slate roof. It has a variety of sash and case windows with different glazing patterns. The south elevation is marked by a tall, coped twice off-set wallhead stack at the center, along with coped end stacks.

On the south elevation, there is a door at the center approached by steps, flanked by plate glass windows on either side. The first floor has three 12-pane windows, and there is a single-storey bay to the left with a door and a half-piended roof.

The east gable features a window on the ground floor to the left and a small attic window. The west gable has a single-storey bay, a blocked window in the center, and another blocked window above at the wallhead, along with a brick stack. There is also an attic window in the main gable.

The north elevation is asymmetrical, with a boarded door and fanlight at the center left, framed by ashlar margins and a lintel inscribed with "IW.ES 1777." There is a small window to the left, and a door that has been blocked and converted into a 4-pane window on the far left, with a lintel inscribed "IW 1740." To the right, there is a plate glass window, an 18-pane stair window, and a single window on the first floor to the left, with a bipartite window to the right. The far right features an advanced single-storey bay with a window and a door on the left return.

The interior has not been seen.
