Angel Hotel, 70 High Street, Gatehouse Of Fleet

The Angel Hotel is a late 18th century, three-storey inn located at 70 High Street in Gatehouse of Fleet. The building features rubble walling that is harled on the south elevation, while the other sides are painted. It has raised polished margins, a base course, and a cill band on the first floor, along with smooth rusticated quoins.

The main elevation facing south is wide and symmetrical, consisting of three bays. There are steps leading up to a Gibbsian doorway, which has a double leaf door topped with a fanlight. Above the door, there are single light windows on the first and second floors. The end bays have tripartite windows at the ground and second floors, while the first floor features simplified Venetian windows.

The elevation facing High Street also has three bays with single light windows throughout. The left ground window was formerly a doorway, which still shows the remains of a pediment and architrave. All the windows are sash and case, with a 12-pane glazing pattern.

The building has a piended slate roof with a coped wallhead stack on the east side. To the east, there is a two-storey, two-bay extension made of painted rubble, featuring single light windows. The first-floor windows in this extension have modern plate glass glazing, and the roofs are also slate.
